Hegwood Piano Studio

The purpose of this competition is to foster excellent musicianship, to provide a positive competitive experience, and in the case of more advanced students, to provide scholarship opportunities. Students ages 19 and under who earn a rating of Superior at their district festivals will be eligible to advance to the State Festival Competition, where they will perform only their required piece from their district audition again. Their audition will be judged by a panel of three judges who will select a winner and two honorable mentions in each division. We will also be offering scholarships to the winners in the advanced levels of the Piano Solo, Piano Duet, Piano Concerto, Violin Solo, Violin Duet, Violin Concerto, Vocal Solo Art Song, Vocal Solo Musical Theater , Flute Solo, and Flute Concerto categories. Auditions will be open so that parents can sit in and other students auditioning can listen to and learn from their peers.

Winners and honorable mentions will be named at an evening ceremony which will also feature brief musical performances by winners of various WFMC and NFMC State and National level competitions. Students receiving 5th or 6th Festival Cups will be honored on stage. State, regional, and national Junior Composers winners will be honored, and the state National Music Week Essay Contest winner will read his or her essay. Please talk to your students and parents today about participating in this year’s State Festival Competition. Entry fees are $30 per student which covers up to three events for that student. Students entering four or more events will pay $45. All applications must be submitted and fees.
